Towards the restoration of the governance of King Guézo in Cotonou

The reconstruction of the facts- acts and works- that marked the governance of King Guézo in Cotonou concerns the organizing committee of the bicentenary of accession to the throne of the economist of the kings of Dahoméens, today Benin. Through a public conference, held on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the Cotonou bird field, said committee with the participation of sages and kings, embodying today King Guézo in Cotonou, have put the butchers double to write a unique and consensual story about governance - he two hundred years ago- of King Guézo in Cotonou.

Reconstruct the governance in Cotonou of King Guézo through various facts and testimonies. It was the strong concern that brought together the organizing committee of the bicentenary of accession to the throne of King Guézo and the sages, kings, religious dignitaries and others with some knowledge of the management in Cotonou of the economist of the kings of Benin, then Dahomey. Coming mostly from Cadjèhoun, a district now living in Cotonou, families, relatives, friends and allies of King Guézo, the traditional sages and dignitaries each brought their stone to the building, for the restoration of the memory of the greatest economic reformer of the Dahomean kings.


Return on a structural governance of the deceased king


From the various interventions, there is a convergence of the facts that marked the history of the king in Cotonou. According to more than one of the participants in the public conference, the king’s governance in Cotonou is mostly marked by the establishment in the city of semi-kingdoms, in order to ensure a successful conveyance of slaves to the Americas and control of the coast to filter -prevent any invasion of the kingdom of Dahomey by oppressors: war- any entry into national territory.

Making the history of the governance of King Guézo in Cotonou, dah Aiso pointed out that the first envoys of the king in Cotonou would have resided in Ganhi before reaching Cadjèhoun, following wars between kingdoms. Several other testimonies have been brought to immortalize the story of King Guezo in Cotonou. It should be noted that praise and songs were said to make the balance of the actions of King Guézo on the throne. From the oil palm reform to the call for unity through the hole jar, songs and praise have not obscured the reforms and course of the king at the head of the kingdom of Dahomey. It should be noted that the celebration of the bicentenary of King Guézo will have to extend into 2021.




The 2018 stage, which started on 3 November last, ends on Saturday 17 November 2018.
